Take Action Now and ask your House Representative to support the Child Care Nutrition Enhancement Act of 2023! The Child Care Nutrition Enhancement Act, introduced in the House of Representatives by Congressman Landsman (OH) and Congresswoman Bonamici (OR), would permanently :
- increase reimbursement rates by 10 cents for all CACFP providers,
- eliminate tiering of family day care homes– all homes would receive tier I rates, and
- allows providers to claim their own children’s meals for reimbursement.
While the first two provisions were temporarily implemented under the Keep Kids Fed Act (KKFA), proving vital for the CACFP community, they expired on June 30. The 2023-2024 reimbursement rates released by USDA reflect the end of these provisions, resulting in a decrease in reimbursement rates for many providers. In a time when child care is in crisis – dealing with rising food/labor costs and staff shortages – it is imperative that providers receive sufficient reimbursement so they can continue operations and are able to serve nutritious meals and snacks to those in their care.
Send a letter to your representative to advocate for more equitable reimbursement in the CACFP.
