As currently proposed, HB 657 would create challenges for community associations, leading to unintended consequences for association governance, financial stability, and day-to-day operations. These impacts ultimately affect the very homeowners the bill intends to protect.
It is important for Florida’s legislators to hear directly from YOU - who live in, volunteer in, and support community associations. Please take 1-2 minutes to send a pre-drafted email to your legislator to inform them that you, your community association, and your industry peers have concerns about the impacts this bill will have on Florida’s 9.5 million residents living in more than 50,000 community associations:
CAI’s Florida Legislative Alliance is also actively advocating on behalf of the industry on HB 465/SB 822 – Community Association Management. We are leading conversations with various stakeholders on the need for amendments to this legislation. We are also closely monitoring SB 638/HB 255 – Condominium Associations. These identical bills would require condominium associations to maintain detailed turnover certificates and annual reports as part of their official records. They also require boards to file turnover certificates with the Division of Condominiums, Timeshares, and Mobile Homes and establish a new statewide, searchable database of turnover information. More information will follow from the Alliance in the coming weeks.
Your voice matters. We strongly encourage you to contact your state legislators to express your concerns about HB 657 and to share your perspective on the value community associations provide. When legislators hear from various industry representatives, it amplifies CAI’s voice and builds more impactful advocacy.
