  Children's vision legislation update  
  The COA-supported legislation to require children to get a comprehensive eye exam before they enter school, AB 1110, has been set for its first hearing in the Assembly Education Committee on April 5. We need constituents of the lawmakers on this committee to send messages of support. If you live in Long Beach, Carlsbad, coastal San Diego, Roseville, Sacramento, Berkeley or east San Diego, please click here to send an email message to your Assembly Member in support of this legislation. If you are not located in one of the areas listed above but still want to support this bill, click here for a sample letter to draft your own letter of support.

  SF/Bay Area event: Assembly Member Kevin Mullin fundraiser  
  Are you in the SF/Bay Area, want to get more involved but don't know how? Participate in the political process by attending a fundraiser! COA is raising money to support the re-election of Assembly Member Kevin Mullin in Hillsborough on Friday evening, April 28. Assembly Member Mullin is a Democrat representing the 22nd Assembly District, which encompasses most of the San Francisco Peninsula region. Mullin serves as the Assembly speaker pro tempore and is a member of the Assembly Business and Professions and Budget committees.

Political involvement is essential to COA's success. The minimum contribution is $100 per person. If you are outside the area, please consider sending in a check to sponsor a student to attend.

  Attend COA Central Valley regional advocacy event  
 

COA is holding a free regional advocacy event for all members in the COA Central California, Kern County and Tri-County Optometric societies. Don't miss this fun event on Saturday, April 22, 2017. We will start at 7:00 p.m. with a reception that will include lawmakers from the greater Central Valley area. The second part of the event will include an update on important legislative issues and grassroots advocacy training. Come out, have a great time, and network with your colleagues! Register online now.

  Lawmaker tours Marshall B. Ketchum University  
  This week, Assembly Member Al Muratsuchi, D-Torrance, a member of the important Assembly Appropriations Committee, visited the Southern California College of Optometry at Marshall B. Ketchum University to learn more about the training that doctors of optometry receive. Thank you to Drs. Mark Nakano, David Sendrowski, John Nishimoto, Julie Schornack and Lester Silverman for arranging and participating in the tour.
