"The Web of Poverty" A USCCB multimedia resource on poverty
November 8, 2019 by John Gonzalez
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops have developed and educational website for the Catholic community to reflect on the issues of poverty. The website, Poverty USA, offers amazing multimedia resources to the community. This video offers a good educational insight into how social issues affecting the community cause an increase in poverty.

This website also offers prayerful reflection on the issue and it promotes solutions through local neighborhood organizing which the Catholic Church supports through the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) Funds. In the coming weeks the parishes will be supporting the CCHD fund and soon I will share the Pope's World Day of the Poor message. Here at Catholic Charities in Brooklyn and Queens we look to address many of the social symptoms that cause poverty and we also assist local community organizations in addressing systemic issues of poverty such as promoting affordable housing and supporting worker rights.

To set the tone for this good work and the promotion of the CCHD fund I offer the following quote from Pope Francis.

The future of humanity does not lie solely in the hands of great leaders, the great powers and the elites. It is fundamentally in the hands of peoples and in their ability to organize. It is in their hands, which can guide with humility and conviction this process of change. I am with you. Each of us, let repeat from the heart: no family without lodging, no rural worker without land, no laborer without rights, no people without sovereignty, no individual without dignity, no child without childhood, no young person without a future, no elderly person without a venerable old age. -Pope Francis, Address at the World Meeting of Popular Movements, Bolivia
