Catholic Social ministry Gathering 2021
February 5, 2021 by John Gonzalez
This weekend is the Catholic Social Ministry Gathering which is being virtually promoted this weekend. This is an annual Advocacy Conference sponsored by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and Catholic Charities USA (as well as other national Catholic institutions).  On Tuesday, February 9th, colleagues will be having a virtual meeting with Senators Schumer and Gillibrand on the morning of the Advocacy Day.

On Monday I will be offering advocacy campaigns through our Voter's Voice on the following three issues that we will be addressing to our Senators and Congressional Representatives. They include:

2 Domestic Issues:
  • Providing Additional COVID-19 Relief that Meets the Needs of the Poor and Vulnerable (including COVID relief that addresses peoples’ need for food, housing, health care, employment and income support, and safety in prisons and detention facilities.) &
  • Support Immigration Reform (including bipartisan immigration reform that gives a path to citizenship to the undocumented, addresses root causes, protects farmworkers, upholds the rule of law, and restores due process for asylum seekers).
One International Issue:
  • Making the Poor and Vulnerable People an International Funding Priority: (Increased funding for international poverty-reducing development and humanitarian programs in Fiscal Year 2022 appropriations to save lives, address the root causes of conflicts, and reduce crushing poverty, and Providing at least $20 billion in emergency spending in the next COVID-19 relief bill to respond to immediate and longer-term impacts of COVID-19 on poor and vulnerable people overseas.
On Monday I will be posting the three advocacy campaigns and I would like to invite you to be advocate with us through this Voter's Voice email system. When you submit your own response please try to add your own story on how we at Catholic Charities in Brooklyn and Queens have experienced this issue or why we are concerned about this.

Thank you for advocating with us on social issues that affect us here at Catholic Charities of Brooklyn and Queens.
Peace.
