Support the Wage Equity Bill (Intro 0452)
The City is a primary funder of human services nonprofits through contracts, and therefore a primary setter of wages for nonprofit human services workers. When the City offsets costs by outsourcing essential services to nonprofits, it does so by paying nonprofit employees less than City employees for the same work. Nonprofit human services workers make 30% less than government human services workers for the job. Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens is one such nonprofit agency and our staff are affected by these unjust policies.

In response to this we stand with a coalition of nonprofit organizations throughout the city in support of the Wage Equity Bill (Intro 0452). This bill aims to secure long-term wage equity for City-contracted nonprofit human services workers by bringing their salaries up to par with City employees who do the same work. I0452 allows the new wage requirement system to adapt to cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs) and collective bargaining outcomes. This would promote transparency in compensation, and foster greater accountability.

We ask all our supporters and staff to support this legislation and help us create a new wage requirement system to help close the pay gap between nonprofits and City human services workers. Join us in establishing true wage equity with city contracts by clicking on this action alert link!
