CPF is working to make necessary reforms to California’s retirement system for firefighters and public safety personnel by supporting AB 1383 (McKinnor). The bill has passed out of the legislature and is now awaiting a signature from Governor Newsom. The Governor has indicated that he has concerns about the bill. AB 1383 makes several changes to strengthen retirement benefits for emergency responders by lowering the retirement age for public safety personnel to 55 and strengthening collective bargaining rights, allowing local firefighter unions to negotiate stronger, more equitable benefits.
