While the popular Massachusetts Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) program helps cities and towns protect residents with grants to identify climate hazards, assess vulnerabilities, and implement action plans for climate resilience, demand dramatically outweighs supply and further actions are needed. With over 93% of communities currently enrolled in the program, competing for limited funds, climate adaptation is impossible at the speed and scale necessary to prepare our communities for the threats.
An Act to incentivize the adoption of local climate resilience policies (H. 1310 | S. 686) – filed by Rep. Lindsay Sabadosa and Sen. Cindy Creem – creates financial incentives for municipalities to invest in climate resilience in order to qualify for additional MVP funds.
This bill is currently before the House Ways and Means Committee and Senate Ways and Means Committee and needs their support to move through the legislative process, so ask the committee members to report H. 1310 | S. 686 favorably out of committee.
