In the absence of a strong state and federal response, many cities and towns are stepping up and taking proactive leadership roles in climate change adaptation, but individual towns cannot face this monumental challenge alone.
An Act pertaining to regional resilience and flood protection entities (H. 3938 | S. 658) – filed by Rep. Amy Sangiolo and Sen. Mike Rush – establishes a Massachusetts Flood Management and Mitigation Authority to lead flood management and prevention efforts across the state. The authority will work with local governments, tribes, nonprofits, and other organizations to build and maintain flood control systems, as well as create rules to protect natural resources, infrastructure, and property.
This bill is currently before the Joint Committee on Environment and Natural Resources and needs their support to move through the legislative process, so ask the committee members to report H. 3938 and S. 658 favorably out of committee.
