Of all the pressing issues on the world stage, one of the most important to American families is the ability to put food on the table, an increasingly expensive task in today’s economy. But Congress has an opportunity to provide much-needed economic relief to Americans while encouraging the formation and growth of families through the budget reconciliation process. Now is the time to strengthen the Child Tax Credit, a longstanding pro-family and pro-life police that helps relieve families from some of the financial burden that comes with having kids.
The House Ways and Means committee released their portion of reconciliation text over the weekend, and in it includes some great ways to strengthen the Child Tax Credit (CTC). These include:
- Raising the max CTC from $2k to $2.5k through 2028
- Makes the current $2k max credit permanent for 2029 and beyond
- Indexing the CTC inflation, so that as inflation rises, the credit will not decrease in value
These provisions are far from being permanent, though. Tomorrow, the committee will hold its markup on the bill, where any of these could be amended or removed from the text. Contact your member of Congress TODAY and tell them how much American families would benefit from a stronger CTC.
