Ask your U. S. Representative to sign the Discharge Petition for the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act (H.R. 619)
Pro-life members of Congress are working to force a vote on H.R. 619, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act using a discharge petition, a special tool that can be used to get a bill on the floor for a vote that Speaker Pelosi, who controls the floor, won't allow.
A Born Alive discharge petition has been filed. A discharge petition needs 218 signatures, a majority of the House, to force a vote. We are asking all members to sign this petition to force a vote on this needed legislation protecting babies born alive after failed abortions.
On opening day, a record 202 members, all Republicans, signed the discharge petition. See if your member has signed the petition HERE (names are listed in order of signature).
Please contact your member of Congress using the sample messages provided in the attached contact form.
Background:
The Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act (H.R. 619) would shield a newborn who survives an attempted abortion from being denied care and left to die. Doctors would be required to provide the same medical care to a newborn survivor of abortion that would be offered to any other baby at the same gestational age.
Infants born alive are not guaranteed these protections under current federal law, giving abortion doctors the green light to turn their backs on a helpless baby after a botched abortion. Many have actually suggested the decision whether to help the baby, now born and struggling for his life on a table, should be left to the abortion doctor and the mother. Such a policy is nothing less than enabling infanticide. Some states continue to push for these expansions, as we have seen in New York and Virginia.
We need your help today to stop this injustice! Even “pro-choice” Americans support the Born Alive bill. We should be able to be unified in ending this horrific, inhumane practice.
