Oppose New Legislation Attacking Premium Cigars - Take Action Now!

S. 3174 – the Reversing the Youth Tobacco Epidemic Act of 2020 was recently introduced by Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and would impose a new set of regulations onto small business owners, manufacturers and consumers  This legislation directly inflicts economic harm on the traditional family-owned small businesses of the premium cigar industry.

S. 3174 would increase taxes on premium cigars, initiate a ban on charitable sponsorships, prohibit the sale of promotional products, and expand other marketing and advertising restrictions. Simply put, S. 3174 treats premium cigars in a one-size-fits-all manner, like any mass-produced cigarette or vaping product.

Tell Congress to protect the traditional family-owned small businesses of the premium cigar industry and oppose this bill.

Petition Text
As a voter and premium cigar patron, I write to you today to express my opposition to S. 3174.  This legislation directly threatens traditional family-owned small businesses, manufacturers of premium hand-made cigars, and consumer choice for a legal adult product.

S. 3174 would decimate my local small business premium cigar shop, and is a discriminatory piece of legislation that treats all tobacco products in the same manner.

While S. 3174 might have the best of intentions, passage of this bill will result in a tax increase on premium cigars, a ban on sponsorship and charitable giving, marketing & advertising restrictions, and other restrictive actions that don’t address the core problem of youth access to tobacco products.

S. 3174 has many unintended consequences and for these reasons should be opposed.
