  My friend and mentor...

How does one measure the loss of the matriarch of the Conservative Movement of the United States?  Literally, because Phyllis Schlafly lived, and was faithful to the call of God on her life, the face of this nation is different -- all for the better.

She has been my friend, hero and mentor for more than 40 years. When those ERA papers were thrust into my hands in the mid-1970s, my life was changed forever, and that happened all across this nation. The lives of countless women were changed when they had that same experience and joined the 'army' that Phyllis inspired. Being encouraged by her and being actively involved with Eagle Forum in AL, KY and now TN has enabled me to do things I could have never imagined. I am so grateful for her example, her support and her friendship.

She established and led an organization that, usually against great odds,  has made a huge difference in various national issues and in states across the nation. It started with the defeat of - "they said it couldn't be done" - the proposed Equal Rights Amendment to the Constitution and grew from there. The Phyllis Schlafly Reports, the books, the speeches - a life dedicated to service to the country that she loved!! She truly was the Sweetheart of the Silent Majority. Her book, A Choice Not an Echo, written  in 1964 (updated in 2014) has been widely (and correctly) credited with starting the Conservative Movement in this country. The Platform of the Republican Party is pro-life because of the tireless work of Phyllis Schlafly.

In addition to all her many public accomplishments, she was the mother of six children, sixteen grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Our prayers are certainly with them in their great loss.

This nation has lost a brilliant strategist and patriot. #InMemoryOfPhyllis   There is no way to measure her loss, but Heaven is definitely richer  as she entered her well earned rest!

Conservative Legend Phyllis Schlafly Dies At 92

by Julia Hahn 5 Sep 2016Washington D.C.

Conservative icon Phyllis Schlafly died on Monday afternoon.

The "Sweetheart of the Silent Majority" passed away surrounded by family in her home in Ladue, Missouri just a short 10-minute drive from where she was born in St. Louis on August 15, 1924.
Her death marks a palpable loss for the conservative movement which, just last month, celebrated the grassroots heroine's 92nd birthday.
An accomplished lawyer, activist, author, and mother of six, Phyllis Schlafly has been described as the embodiment of the ideal American woman.
As Sen. Jeff Sessions wrote in a statement submitted for the Congressional Record, "dynamic, smart, beautiful, and articulate," Schlafly has "fearlessly" and "tirelessly... championed the American family and American values."
In 1963, the publisher of the St. Louis Globe-Democrat put it this way: "Phyllis Schlafly stands for everything that has made America great and for those things which will keep it that way."
Schlafly enjoyed a rich family life. Married in 1949, she and her late-husband, Fred, shared forty-four happy years together as well as six children, sixteen grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
Never one to see her femininity as antithetical to her career goals, Schlafly was awarded Illinois' Mother of the Year only a few years before being named one of the 100 Most Important Women of the 20th Century by the Ladies' Home Journal.
Revered for her steadfast judgement, Schlafly was a guiding light to many conservatives, who looked to her to determine the political battles of the day. Most recently, the "godmother of the conservative movement" led the charge against the Gang of Eight amnesty plan and President Obama's Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement.

Unafraid to go toe-to-toe with some of the most powerful men in the nation, Schlafly was known for engaging in fights of principle all while projecting her irresistible charm, grace and wit.

Eagle Forum takes its name from this verse of Scripture:

"
But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint".
Isaiah 40:31

"......... the time for my departure is near.  I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day-and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing."
2 Timothy 4:6-8

"His lord said unto him [her], Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord."
Matthew 25:21

A founding mother of the conservative movement

- - Tuesday, February 24, 2015

What can one say about my good friend Phyllis Schlafly. I have known her for more than 30 years and have marveled at her courage and commitment to issues in which she believes.

In the 1970's, the radical women's rights movement promoted a leftist Equal Rights Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Momentum surged around the document. Eventual passage in only three more states would have made it the law of the land and America would never have been the same.

The feminists and their supporters were ready to celebrate their approaching victory when Phyllis rose to the challenge. She was up against truly formidable opposition in two U.S. Presidents and their First Ladies, a sizable majorities in both the House and Senate, the federal judiciary, the liberal news media, the entertainment industry and the rest of the governing elite. It was no contest.

I watched on television as Phyllis took on Phil Donohue in his heyday. She fought him to the ground. When the battle was over, the ERA had been crushed and it never recovered.
