Maintain Medicare Telehealth Flexibilities
Medicare’s temporary authority to broadly cover telehealth services is set to expire at the end of 2024 unless the full Congress takes definitive action to extend these flexibilities. Extending this authority has garnered strong bipartisan support, with both House committees responsible for Medicare telehealth unanimously approving legislation earlier this year to extend current flexibilities through 2026, reflecting prior support.

Congress faces a critical deadline on December 20, 2024, to fund the government. This deadline presents an opportunity for a larger legislative package that could include provisions such as a Medicare telehealth extension.

The Academy urges members of Congress to prioritize a Medicare telehealth extension before the end of the year to ensure continued access to essential telehealth services, including Medical Nutrition Therapy. We remain committed to keeping our members informed of any significant legislative developments on this issue.
