Workplace Violence Has No Cure. But We Can Do More To Fight It.
Workplace violence in the emergency department remains a persistent threat to the lives, health, and well-being of emergency nurses. Without appropriate protocols and supportive policies, it’s also contributing to workforce retention problems driving the national nursing shortage.

According to the CDC, the number of health care workers reporting harassment while at work more than doubled from 2018-2022.

The Workplace Violence Prevention for Health Care and Social Service Workers Act, H.R. 2531/ S. 1232, was recently introduced for the 119th Congress in both the House and Senate. It would require health care and social service employers to develop and implement workplace violence prevention plans specific to their facilities, and could go a long way towards standardizing evidence-based policies in hospitals to mitigate the impact of workplace violence and harassment.

Contact your senators and representatives today and urge them to cosponsor and support H.R. 2531/ S. 1232, the Workplace Violence Prevention for Health Care and Social Service Workers Act.
