Boarding in the ED: A Crisis Threatening Lives and Care!
Overcrowding and boarding are a persistent and growing threat to the emergency department, contributing to many of the worst problems experienced by emergency nurses!

Boarding patients in the ED for extended periods leads to increased mortality, preventable medical errors, and workplace violence against emergency nurses. The crisis disproportionately affects vulnerable populations and puts additional strain on emergency departments.

The Addressing Boarding and Crowding in the Emergency Department Act of 2025 (ABC-ED Act), H.R. 2936/S. 1974, focuses on modernizing the infrastructure used to track hospital beds, improving care transitions and minimizing hospital capacity issues.

Tackling some of the root causes of the boarding crisis will improve patient flow, help lessen the severity of workplace violence, reduce burnout and turnover, and promote a healthy work environment for emergency nurses.

Contact your representative and senators today and urge them to cosponsor and support H.R. 2936/ S. 1974, the Addressing Boarding and Crowding in the Emergency Department (ABC-ED) Act of 2025.
