Save Nursing Education and Help the Workforce! Support Title VIII Reauthorization
The nursing shortage has reached a crisis point. Overcrowding, emergency department boarding, rising workplace violence, and severe burnout are actively destabilizing our healthcare system. We need immediate, decisive legislative action to protect our nursing workforce and the patients they serve.

For 61 years, Title VIII of the Public Health Service Act has provided the foundational funding for nursing workforce development. These programs are vital to recruitment and retention. They supply critical scholarships, robust loan repayment options, and essential funding for nursing school faculty to fill gaps in underserved communities.

The Senate HELP Committee recently approved the reauthorization of these programs. Crucially, they attached two major legislative wins: the National Nursing Workforce Center Act and the Nursing Faculty Shortage Reduction Act. Together, these provisions ensure every state secures dedicated nursing workforce planning resources and would assist bedside nurses to transition into educator roles without absorbing drastic pay cuts.
