SB 489 would move authority for fire inspection and codes from the state fire marshal to the 64 parish "Fire Prevention Bureaus". The state fire marshal also would not be able to regulate one and two-family dwellings and movables. The bill also removes NFPA code guidance which has been in effect since the 1970's and moves it to the International Code Council. The inevitable patchwork of codes and its enforcement would be a nightmare for life safety companies to comply with.
