Tell Medford Officials: NO to Rent Control and Transfer Taxes!

Do you live or own property in Medford?  Tell Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn and members of the Medford City Council to oppose rent control and new taxes on real estate!

On January 31, 2024, the Medford City Council announced its 2024-2025 Governing Agenda.  The Council wants to ask Beacon Hill for more power to tax and regulate real estate.

Including:

24-049 Rent Control and "Just Cause" Eviction

22-310 A new sales tax on homes and real estate.

Medford Councilor Kit Collins and Zac Bears recently expressed "enthusiastic support" for Governor Healey's proposed real estate tax. In a letter to the Democratic Leadership, the municipal leaders urged:

  • The ability to tax more property by raising or lowering the currently proposed $1 million threshold.
  • The ability to tax more property by capturing the full amount of the transaction, rather than only the amount in excess of the threshold.
  • The ability to decide if the buyers or sellers will pay the tax.
