Family Violence Prevention Services Improvement Act
Urge Congress to pass the Family Violence Prevention and Services Improvement Act (FVPSA), providing core federal funding dedicated to resources and programs to combat intimate partner violence. It is time for the Senate to pass S. 1275. The House of Representatives passed its bill (H.R. 2119) in 2021. The Senate bill increases funding levels for programs to support domestic violence shelters and services for survivors, and increases access to funding for tribes, communities of color, and underserved communities. The bill invests in 24-hour hotlines, increases support for evidence-informed, community-based prevention programs for local communities, and enhances victim services through training and technical assistance.

The Family Violence Prevention and Services Improvement Act provides core, flexible funding for more than 1,500 local domestic violence shelters and programs so they can provide emergency shelter, crisis counseling, safety planning, legal assistance, intervention, domestic and dating violence prevention education, and other life-saving services annually to more than 1.3 million victims and their children.

This bill provides funding for state and territorial domestic violence coalitions that coordinate state-wide initiatives to address domestic violence. The bill provides children’s programs which support abused parents and their children in efforts to disrupt the cycle of violence. The bill also strengthens the capacity of Indian tribes to exercise their sovereign authority to respond to domestic violence more fully in their communities by increasing resources for tribes, authorizing funding for tribal coalitions, and authorizing the currently funded Alaska Native Women’s Resource Center.
