Protect Those Who Protected Us: Stop HB 108
Attention Supporters of Georgia’s Veterans and Service Members,

Georgia’s military community [our service members, veterans, and their families] deserves protection, not exposure to predatory practices. As we approach the upcoming legislative session, one carried-over bill threatens to put those who served directly in harm’s way: Georgia House Bill 108 (SAVE Act).

HB 108 has quietly advanced through the process and could receive a Senate vote at any time. Despite its name, this bill does not support veterans. Without critical amendments, HB 108 violates federal law, dismantles long-standing protections, and opens the door for unaccredited, unqualified actors to profit off the backs of Georgia’s 700,000+ veterans and service members.
We cannot and will not allow that to happen.

A Quick Look at the Bill’s Path

  • 02/26/2025 – Passed the House (158 Yea, 10 Nay, 4 No Vote, 8 Excused)
  • 03/19/2025 – Senate Veterans, Military & Homeland Security Committee voted Favorably
    • No external testimony was allowed
  • 03/21/2025 – Cleared Rules Committee; Read a Second Time in the Senate
  • Current Status – Awaiting Senate Floor Consideration

Why HB 108 Puts Veterans at Risk

Despite its misleading name, the SAVE Act targets the very people it claims to help. If passed without changes, it would:

  • Allow unaccredited claims agents, attorneys, and companies to charge veterans and service members for help with initial disability claims, which is illegal at the federal level.
  • Open the door to predatory and unqualified actors who could mishandle claims, delay benefits, or jeopardize a veteran’s entire case.
  • Put Georgia’s military community at risk of financial exploitation, misinformation, and loss of federally protected rights.

Veterans should NEVER have to pay to access the benefits they earned through service and sacrifice.
Georgia should not legalize what federal law explicitly prohibits.

Think of it this way:

Would you trust an unlicensed surgeon to operate on a patient?
Then why allow an unaccredited, untrained person to handle a veteran’s lifeline, their VA benefits claim?

Accreditation exists for a reason: to protect veterans. HB 108 removes those safeguards.

Share a Personal Story
If you have a personal story about dealing with unaccredited organizations or actors for your benefits claim, add your story to the top of this campaign's advocacy message. In addition, if you feel strongly about the importance of ensuring veterans do NOT go into debt to receive the benefits they EARNED, feel free to share that in the story box as well.
