As a health care worker, you have experienced and continue to manage the devastating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of you have risked your own health and that of your loved ones over the last 14 months.
In the next few weeks, our elected officials will make very difficult decisions about the Governor’s proposed state budget for fiscal years 2021 and 2022. Unfortunately, both a tax increase and Medicaid payment cuts for hospitals are included:
- $62 million tax increase for hospitals
- $7.9 million in hospital payment cuts
These financial penalties will seriously impact hospitals still struggling to manage the financial, workforce and operational issues of the pandemic.
The Hospital Association of Rhode Island has testified and worked closely with state legislators to voice its concerns about how these cuts will destabilize hospitals during a critical phase of the recovery.
We invite you to oppose the increased tax increase and payment cuts to hospitals by sending the enclosed letter to Governor McKee, your state representative and state senator.
Thank you for everything you have done during the pandemic and every day.
With appreciation,
Teresa Paiva-Weed
President, Hospital Association of Rhode Island
