Block Immunity for Big Oil Companies
The American Petroleum Institute — the largest oil and gas trade association in the country and a defendant in several climate accountability lawsuits — has announced that stopping “state climate lawsuits” against fossil fuel companies is a top priority for the industry this year, following reports from the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times that highlighted fossil fuel lobbyists’ push for Congress to pass a legal liability waiver for the industry.

Oil companies contribute to air pollution across the extraction, transport, refining, and combustion stages by releasing methane, volatile organic compounds, nitrogen oxides, and sulfur dioxide. Major sources include flaring, venting, leaks, and refining processes, leading to smog, acid rain, and a multitude of health risks. Our children face pollution everywhere, and protecting them should take priority over Big Oil's profits when those profits cause harm.

Tell Congress: No Immunity for Big Oil!
