Thanks to the tireless advocacy of our members and supporters, we have successfully reached the 218 signatures needed to bypass the legislative delays and move H.R. 82, the Social Security Fairness Act, forward. This is a major victory for our retired firefighters and other public servants whose hard-earned Social Security benefits have been unfairly taken by the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO). But this is just one step—our fight is far from over. We still need to mount pressure on Congress to hold a vote and fully repeal the WEP. The system has long been stacked against us, and we must continue to press relentlessly until these unjust provisions are permanently eliminated. We cannot rest until Congress takes action and finally restores the benefits our retirees rightfully deserve.
