School Mental Health Screening Must Include Parents' Consent
Several laws have been passed that put into place mental health screening for students as young as 3rd grade in public schools.

The U.S. Department of Educations has given the Illinois State Board of Education until November 13, 2026, to rewrite the rules.

ISBE has been warned that the law is in violation to 2 federal laws that have been in place for 50 years: the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA).

Public input is needed.

1.) Insist that the new rules reflect a written opt-in form that has to be signed by a parent(s) in order for the school to be permitted to question/evaluate the child.

2.) Insist that parents have full access to the test/evaluation questions and full access to the results.
