State Senator Heather Steans (D-Chicago) is the sponsor of SB 3249, which has already passed in the senate. This "Inclusive Curriculum" bill will require that all materials used in government schools must address the roles and contributions of people who define themselves by their disordered sexual desires. Equality Illinois and the Illinois Safe Schools Alliance are behind it.
In addition, this bill will require that "the teaching of history of the United States in public schools shall include a study of the role and contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people in the history of this country and this State."
This legislation passed the Illinois Senate on May 2nd by a vote of 34 to 18, with Republican Senators Jason Barickman and Chris Nybo joining the majority. It is now pending in the Illinois House.
