Protect Our Neighbors: Prevent Increased Funding for ICE

As faith community grounded in love, we grieve the killing of Renee Nicole Good and the abuses inflicted on immigrant communities in Minnesota and beyond. That is why, in solidarity with our faith partners in Minnesota, we are calling on Congress to 1) prevent increased funding for ICE, 2) to hold the officer who killed Renee Good legally accountable, and 3) to demand ICE leave Minnesota immediately.

Congress is considering increasing the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) budget, with ICE receiving $6.2 billion dollars and 50,000 more beds for detention centers. With heightened immigration enforcement touching every aspect of American life, this increased budget would further ICE’s horrific agenda to terrorize God’s children through even more aggressive immigration enforcement.

An increase in DHS’s budget will mean more deaths, more deportations, and greater suffering for immigrants and those who love them. In 2025, 605,000 people were deported from the U.S.; 1.9 million people self-deported; and 32 people died in ICE detention facilities. Conditions in detention are dire: fluorescent lights shining around the clock, rotten, spoiled food for meals, dirty drinking water, a lack of access to necessary medical care, and multiple reports of physical and sexual violence against detainees.

History is repeating itself and with devastating consequences. Camp East Montana, a tent camp detention center built on the bones of a Japanese internment camp, reported multiple deaths over the past few months. From restricted access to showers, bathrooms flooded with urine and feces, to violent beatings, human rights abuses run rampant. Innocent lives are being destroyed. The deleterious impact on detainees’ physical and mental health must not be ignored.

Our faith demands that we speak out and raise our voices. With the billions of dollars being used to harm our neighbors, our government could choose to feed the hungry, care for the sick, and house the unhoused as Jesus calls us to do. Instead, harm abounds. Love Knows No Borders: God weeps with us at these tragedies and calls us to take meaningful action.

Call on your members of Congress to vote NO on increased funding for ICE, to demand accountability, and to keep the residents of Minnesota safe by removing ICE from their streets immediately!
