As Christians we are called to care for our neighbors, seek justice, and steward God’s creation. The federal Farm Bill is a critical piece of legislation that shapes our food system, supports farmers, protects creation, and ensures that families across the country have access to affordable, nutritious food. Congress is currently considering a new Farm Bill, and this is a pivotal moment to raise our collective voice.
The Farm Bill plays a vital role in ensuring food is accessible, responsibly sourced, and sustainable. This legislation helps determines whether millions of low-income families can access food through programs like SNAP, whether small and historically marginalized farmers receive fair support, and whether our nation invests in sustainable and climate-resilient agricultural practices. It also presents an opportunity to address long-standing inequities in agricultural policy and to affirm the dignity of farmworkers and rural communities.
This bill arrives at a moment when millions of Americans are already struggling, following cuts to SNAP enacted under the so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill Act.” Those reductions have made it even harder for families living paycheck to paycheck to put food on the table, deepening food insecurity at a time when support is needed most. These cuts will disproportionately impact children, seniors, and people with disabilities, undermining one of our nation’s most effective anti-hunger programs.
At a time when many households are facing rising food costs, reducing access to nutrition assistance is not only short-sighted; it is a moral failure that runs counter to our shared call to care for the most vulnerable among us.
Our faith compels us to advocate for a Farm Bill that protects the least of these and cares for God’s creation. Congress must protect and strengthen nutrition programs that feed our neighbors, invest in small and diverse farming operations, advance racial equity in agriculture, and support conservation efforts that care for the earth. A just Farm Bill should ensure that everyone has access to healthy food and that those who grow and harvest it are treated with fairness and dignity.
Now is the time to act. We urge you to contact your members of Congress and call them to support a Farm Bill that ends hunger while prioritizing justice, compassion, and sustainability.
