Across the United States, medically fragile children and their families are being detained and face the threat of losing access to critical and, in some cases, lifesaving medical care. Children of non-criminal immigrants with serious medical conditions depend on the support of their caregivers, oftentimes family members, to survive and recover. Yet many families across the U.S. are currently vulnerable to immigration enforcement actions that can disrupt treatment, separate caregivers from their children, and ultimately put a child's health in danger.
We write to ask you to contact your members of Congress today and urge them to 1) join as an original co-sponsor of the MERCY Act by 4:00 pm on Monday, June 29 and 2) vote for the MERCY Act amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act.
Congress has the power to help some of the most vulnerable children in the U.S. right now, some of whom are in fact U.S. citizens themselves. No parent should have to worry that their children's medical treatment could be interrupted because of immigration-related uncertainty. With your help, we can ensure that children facing serious health challenges have the stability and support they deserve.
