Action AlertAction Requested: Submit Public Comments in Opposition to CMS Proposed Rule 2449-P by July 21
The California Fire Chiefs Association (CalChiefs) and Fire Districts Association of California (FDAC) encourage all members to submit public comments in opposition to the provisions in CMS Proposed Rule 2449-P that would cap Ground Emergency Medical Transportation (GEMT) supplemental payments at the Medicare Ambulance Fee Schedule (AFS) rates.
If adopted, this proposal could significantly reduce Medicaid supplemental reimbursement for many public fire and EMS agencies, threatening the financial sustainability of local emergency medical services and limiting the resources available to serve California communities. CMS is accepting public comments through July 21, 2026.
Personalize the template by adding information about your agency and the potential impacts on your community. Individual comments are more effective than identical submissions.
When submitting your comments, reference CMS Proposed Rule 2449-P.
Your participation is critical. Strong engagement from California's fire districts, fire departments, and EMS providers will help demonstrate the significant impact this proposal could have on emergency medical services and the communities we serve.
Thank you for taking the time to make your voice heard.
