Act Now: Remove the Immunization Proviso from the KDHE Budget Bill
Last week, a proviso was added to the KDHE budget bill requiring the agency to implement the CDC immunization schedules exactly as they exist on July 1, 2026.

Immunization policy should be based on science and medical evidence—not politics. Embedding federal schedule language in statute, particularly in today’s politicized environment, risks tying Kansas to decisions that may not reflect sound public health practice or the needs of our state.

We are already seeing the consequences of declining vaccination coverage. Across the country, communities are experiencing increases in vaccine-preventable diseases—illnesses that can cause serious complications, long-term health impacts, and even death.

This provision was introduced last week and will move quickly through the budget process, but there is still time to make a difference.

KPHA members: please contact your legislators today and urge them to remove this harmful proviso. Your voice matters.
