Action Center
The number of older Kansans continues to grow rapidly, particularly those age 85 and older who are most likely to need long-term services and supports. Demand for nursing home care, the Frail Elderly (FE) waiver, and senior nutrition services is not shrinking. Cutting funding will not reduce need, it will only limit access and destabilize providers who are already stretched thin.
Right now: HB 2434 (House Budget Bill) requires continued protection against cuts to nursing homes and the Frail Elderly waiver.
We need legislators to understand that:
- Long-term care services are not optional line items.
- Waiver capacity overages represent real Kansans already receiving services.
- Workforce shortages and rising acuity make funding stability essential.
- Cuts do not eliminate demand — they increase hospitalizations, family caregiver strain, and higher-cost system utilization.
