In October, 2019, the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) approved an 18% reduction in striped bass total removals to end overfishing and begin rebuilding the striped bass population.

However, despite clear direction from ASMFC, Maryland continues to pursue other options that restrict access without providing meaningful conservation and shift the reduction burden to private anglers. Maryland should follow the recommendations of ASMFC.

Today is the deadline to tell the Maryland Department of Natural Resources that you support striped bass conservation but don’t agree it should only be the recreational fishing community’s responsibility to meet the 18% harvest reduction quota.
