Tell Your Representative to Co-Sponsor the WELCOMED Act!
As vulnerable Afghans begin to arrive and settle into their new communities across the country, we must ensure our newest neighbors are provided the assistance necessary to rebuild their new lives, commensurate with our nation’s moral and humanitarian obligations. The current ‘parolee’ system they were provided due to a rushed evacuation offers only brief and limited assistance and does not sufficiently address the needs of arriving Afghans who have lost the only home they have known.

On September 3, Representatives Seth Moulton (D-MA) and Don Bacon (R-NE) introduced the Welcoming Evacuees Coming from Overseas to Mitigate Effects of Displacement Act of 2021, also known as the WELCOMED Act, to ensure that Afghans do not suffer as a result of the rushed evacuation. If passed by Congress and signed into law by the president, the bill will provide evacuated Afghans with the same basic services and resources other refugees and Special Immigrant Visa recipients have traditionally received and that Congress has mandated for them.

Send a message to your Representative today and urge them to cosponsor the WELCOMED Act!
