Reject Medicaid Cuts That Threaten Community-Based Care
As your constituent and as an advocate for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), I urge you to support people with disabilities and reject further cuts or harmful changes to Medicaid. After decades of underinvestment and on top of the significant cuts included in the budget reconciliation bill passed last year, cutting more funding from Medicaid will create more uncertainty for people with I/DD, their families, and the community providers who support them.

Medicaid is an essential source of health care for people with I/DD and the only source of their long-term supports and services. Home and community-based services (HCBS) are a cost-effective solution and Medicaid’s investment in these services is essential for:
- Empowering people with I/DD to live independently, find meaningful employment, and remain closely connected with family, friends, and their communities, rather than in expensive institutional settings.
- Sustaining the disability services workforce, which is already in crisis.
- Ensuring stability for service providers, who are already struggling with high turnover and underfunding.

Please protect Medicaid’s vital role in supporting individuals with I/DD and their families. I urge you to reject any proposal that would further cut Medicaid funding and put services for individuals with I/DD at risk.
