This proposed reorganization would fragment a coordinated system of aging services, threatening the continuity and effectiveness of care that older adults currently receive. Splitting these programs across agencies would create confusion, disrupt service delivery, and reduce accountability for outcomes. Moreover, the elimination of dedicated OAA programs could weaken the community-based infrastructure—including Area Agencies on Aging—that many older adults rely on for meals, transportation, caregiver support, and the ability to age safely at home.
Rather than improving outcomes, this restructuring and elimination of some OAA programs risks undoing decades of progress in how we support older adults and their caregivers across the country.
Action Needed: Send a message to Virginia’s Congressional Delegation to urge them to protect and preserve the OAA. Targeted messages will be sent to Senator Mark Warner, Senator Tim Kaine, and your Congressional Representative urging them to protect funding for Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs).
