A South Dakota group is circulating a petition to get a 'Right to Abortion Amendment', which would essentially legalize abortion up until birth in the state, listed on the ballot in the general election this year. 

The amendment would allow abortion at any time during the pregnancy whenever an abortionist deems an abortion “necessary” for the mother’s “life or health,” including for emotional or mental issues. 

Furthermore, it would eliminate a parent’s right to know when their minor daughter is pregnant and being pressured into abortion, remove mothers’ protection against being pressured into an abortion against their will, get rid of protections allowing nurses and doctors to object to being involved in abortion, and reduce health and safety requirements imposed on abortionists. 

Simply stated, this amendment poses immense dangers to mothers and unborn children in South Dakota, where, since the overturning of Roe v. Wade, abortion has been outlawed. 

Demand that the basic right to life be upheld in South Dakota – send an urgent message today. 

The petition was launched by the left-wing, pro-abortion group “Dakotans for Health” last year. If it receives at least 35,000 signatures, the amendment will be listed on the ballot in the 2024 general election. The group claims to have already gathered over 50,000 signatures, but they have yet to be vetted. 

However, there have been several reported instances of petition-signing rules being broken, such as petitions being left unattended and individuals signing multiple times.  

These violations should invalidate the petition, but a proper investigation must be performed before it can be declined for certification. 

South Dakota Secretary of State Monae Johnson must ultimately vet the petition and stop it from being unlawfully included on the election ballot. 

Tell Secretary Johnson and your representatives to conduct a thorough investigation – send an urgent message today. 

Raising further doubts about the validity of the petition, many pro-abortion lobbyists have been extremely misleading in describing what the actual consequences of the amendment would be.  

As Republican Rep. Jon Hansen told LifeSiteNews in an email, “Proponents of the radical abortion-up-to-nine-months amendment have been deceptive and dishonest about the amendment’s language, saying it will only make abortion legal during the first trimester. But this is a blatant lie.” 

We must demand that our politicians here in South Dakota stand up against this horrifying attempt at such a grave injustice. The lives of thousands of babies are on the line.
