Abortion is already legal up to birth in Maine, but, Bill LD 227 would forbid state law enforcement from cooperating in any way with law enforcement from other states attempting to pursue illegal abortions and transgender surgeries, unless required by federal law or other state laws.
This would mean that any individual from any state could come to Maine for an abortion or transgender procedure, and, regardless of whether it is a punishable offense in their state, be able to undergo that dangerous procedure without legal consequence.
It would even protect almost anyone who trafficked a minor into the state of Maine for the purposes of obtaining an abortion, 'sex-change' hormones, or genital mutilation - parental consent is not required as part of the bill.
Don't let Maine become a destination for abortion or genital mutilation – send an urgent message today.
Sixteen Republican attorneys general, led by Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti, have warned their Maine counterpart that “LD 227 seeks to contravene the lawful policy choices of our States’ citizens by imposing on the rest of the country Maine’s views on hotly debated issues such as gender transition surgeries for children.”
It would also forbid health care providers or insurers from taking any “adverse action” against patients or practitioners on the basis of abortion or gender “services,” including disciplinary action, refusal to provide service, or refusal to insure. There is no religious exemption.

Abortion is a grave evil that we must continue fighting. Although Roe v. Wade has been overturned, the battles within the states continue. This instance in Maine is just one of them.
Similarly, transgender ideologues are upending the very fabric of our nation, confusing citizens and destroying lives with their dangerous ideas.
But those who suffer gender dysphoria should be helped and guided toward the truth, not affirmed in their illness.
We must demand that our great state fulfill its duty in protecting the most vulnerable.
Tell Maine legislators to defend the vulnerable from irreparable harm, and even death – send an urgent message today.
