UPDATE: Gov. Ducey protects children by SIGNING HB 2889 into law! -- Thank him today!
UPDATE:

Have you heard?

In the time since our last contact, Republican Governor Doug Ducey has signed House Bill (HB) 2889, which significantly strengthens legal penalties for child sex offenders, into law here in Arizona!

This is fantastic news, and further evidence that the grassroots efforts of Arizonans like you are having a meaningful, positive effect in our state and for our children!

And now, with the hard work behind us, you can take this chance to extend a message of gratitude to Gov. Ducey for doing his part by signing into law this most important legislation, and for putting Arizona children first.

You can contact Gov. Ducey in one easy step using this simple contact form that LifeSiteNews.com is making available here, on the Voter Voice platform.

With one click, your message is sent directly to your representatives without having to look up any of their contact details.

As a reminder, HB 2889 -- now the law of the land -- will amend Arizona criminal statutes to impose automatic life sentences without any opportunity for early release on individuals convicted of egregious crimes against minors, ranging from child sex trafficking to production/distribution of child pornography.

The bill managed to attract near unanimous support in the Arizona Legislature, passing the Senate by a vote of 30-0 and the House by 57-1 -- a rare occurrence and impressive feat regardless of political climate, let alone during times as polarized as this one.

Thankfully, Gov. Ducey agreed with Arizona Legislature's decision, and fulfilled arguably one of his most sacred duties as Governor - that of protecting our children under state law - by signing HB 2889 into law back on April 9th.

He deserves our thanks and recognition for getting this all-important legislation across the finish line, once and for all.

Please take a few minutes to contact Gov. Ducey and thank him for signing HB 2889, which strengthens legal penalties for convicted child sex offenders, and protecting Arizona's children under state law.

Thank you!

Take a few minutes to review our previous message to Arizonans regarding HB 2889:

A new bill that would significantly strengthen penalties for child sex offenders just passed the Arizona House of Representatives in a near unanimous vote.

H.B. 2889 would establish life-in-prison sentences for child sex offenders in Arizona without the possibility of early release.

The bill enjoys strong support across the board, but still must be passed by the Arizona Senate in order to get to the Governor’s desk and be signed into law.

That’s why we’re asking you to contact your State Senator and ask them to support this important piece of legislation!

You can contact your State Senator in one easy step using this simple contact form that LifeSiteNews.com is making available here, on the Voter Voice platform.

Under current Arizona law, convicted child sex offenders generally face prison sentences of 10 to 20 years, and are sometimes eligible for various forms of early release, including parole and probation.

H.B. 2889 would change that: Those convicted of crimes ranging from child sex trafficking to production/distribution of child pornography would face automatic life sentences without any opportunity for early release.

And while this legislation was introduced and sponsored by Republican lawmakers, it still managed to pass the Arizona House with overwhelming bipartisan support: Only one member of the chamber voted against it.

The popularity of this bill is strong, but we must never take anything for granted: It’s up to us to let our State Senators know that we support it, too, and that they should, as well, when it comes to the floor for a vote.

Please take a few minutes to contact your State Senator and request that they vote in favor of H.B. 2889.

If it passes the Senate and becomes law, Arizona could set a crucial precedent for our nation in terms of how our criminal justice system approaches its most depraved offenders.

Our children must be protected, and those who do them harm must be brought to justice. H.B. 2889 will strengthen this commitment here in Arizona.

Thank you for helping deliver this message to them.
