UPDATE: Gov. DeSantis SIGNS Sports Fairness into law! -- Thank him today!
UPDATE:

HAVE YOU HEARD?

In the time since our last contact, Governor Ron DeSantis has signed SB 1028, a wide-encompassing bill that includes the language from the Fairness in Women's Sports Act, into law!

That's right -- Sports Fairness is now the law of the land here in Florida!

This is fantastic news, and further evidence that the grassroots efforts of Floridians like you are having a meaningful, positive effect in our state and for women and girls!

And now, with the hard work behind us, you can take this chance to extend a message of gratitude to Gov. DeSantis for doing his part by signing this important legislation into law, and helping level the playing field for female athletes in the Sunshine State.

You can reach Gov. DeSantis in one easy step using this simple contact form that we're making available here, on the LifeSite Action Center.

With one click, your message is sent directly to the Governor without having to look up any of his contact details.

As a reminder, the provisions from SB 1028 ensure that biological males are banned from participating in women's/girls' sports (and vice-versa), and also requires that any athletic teams be designated as specifically reserved for men/boys/males, women/girls/females, or coed/mixed.

“We believe that it’s very important that the integrity of those competitions are preserved, that these opportunities are protected," Gov. DeSantis said upon signing the bill, "and I can tell you this, in Florida, girls are going to play girls sports and boys are going to play boy sports."

This is especially remarkable considering the once bleak outlook for Sports Fairness in Florida: The original bill, SB 2012, seemed destined to collapse after being tabled by members of the Senate Rules Committee with only days to go before the end of the 2021 legislative session.

But Sports Fairness was revived in SB 1028, which was passed by the Florida Senate in a 23-16 vote, while winning the approval of a decisive majority of the State House of Representatives (79-37).

Thankfully, Gov. DeSantis agreed with the Legislature's decision, and signed SB 1028 into law just last week on June 1st.

He deserves our thanks and recognition for ensuring protections of our state's female athletes by getting this all-important legislation across the finish line.

Please take a few minutes to contact Gov. DeSantis and thank him for signing SB 1028, which ensures fairness in sports for Florida's female athletes, into law.

Thank you!

Take a few minutes to review our previous message to Floridians regarding SB 1028:

UPDATE:

HUGE news:  In the time since our last contact - just a couple days ago - the State Senate has remarkably revived AND approved legislation to ensure sports fairness here in Florida!

This is fantastic news, and further evidence that the grassroots efforts of Floridians like you are having a meaningful, positive effect in our state and for women and girls!

The measure, which was passed Wednesday evening by both chambers of the Florida State Legislature as an amendment in a new bill (SB 1028), is now officially on its way to Governor Ron DeSantis' desk for final consideration and, hopefully, approval.

That's why we're asking YOU to contact Gov. DeSantis and encourage him to sign this important bill - including the sports fairness provision - into law as soon as possible!

If he does, Florida will join a growing list of states adopting similar legislation in response to Joe Biden's executive order allowing biological males to participate in females' sports and athletics.

But it's up to us to let our Governor know that the people of Florida support this important legislation, too.

Please take urgent action and contact Gov. DeSantis in one easy step using the simple contact form that LifeSite is making available here.

It’s called Voter Voice and it will automatically match you to the Governor’s email and Twitter accounts.

It only takes one click of a button, and you won't even have to look-up his contact details.

All hope seemed to be lost for sports fairness in this year's legislative session when the Senate Rules Committee indefinitely postponed a hearing for SB 2012 (a standalone bill that would have banned biological males from participating in sports and athletic activities reserved for women and/or girls only), all but ensuring the legislation's collapse before this Friday's deadline.

But the House, which had already approved sports fairness in a decisive vote, took matters into their own hands.

Republican Representative Kaylee Tuck incorporated the language from SB 2012 into SB 1028, a wide-encompassing charter schools bill, by way of an amendment, and from there, SB 1028 went on to be approved by both chambers of the State Legislature before the close of the 2021 legislative session.

As a reminder, these provisions would ensure that biological males are banned from participating in women's/girls' sports (and vice-versa), and would require that any athletic teams be designated specifically as reserved for men/boys/males, women/girls/females, or coed/mixed.

And now, the ball is in Gov. DeSantis' court, and while he's already expressed his intention to sign this bill into law (and this remains a likely outcome), we mustn't take anything for granted.

That's why we need you to take action next, and tell Gov. DeSantis that you support sports fairness and want him to sign this important measure into law as soon as possible!

Please contact Governor DeSantis today, and request that he sign SB 1028, including the amendment ensuring sports fairness here in Florida.

Individual states are our last line of defense against the left’s attack on female athletes and biology in general, and, together, we're putting Joe Biden and his radical allies on notice their dangerous agenda will not be tolerated.

Let's make sure Florida, under the leadership of Gov. Ron DeSantis, does its part by making sports fairness the law of the land!
