As a Marylander, myself, I am horrified to learn that the General Assembly has directed its full fire towards the innocent unborn of Maryland.
In this session alone, three absolutely appalling bills, promoting abortion and even the killing of babies who survive abortions, have been proposed. And, shamefully, two of them have already passed the second reading in the House of Delegates!
We must, therefore, take action now and CONTACT our State Delegates, State Senators and Governor Hogan, telling them, in no uncertain terms, that these bills must be opposed and, or, vetoed.
House Bill HB1171 would seek to change the state's Constitution to "enshrine" abortion in the Maryland Constitution. If passed by both houses, the question would appear on a ballot measure this November. The wording of the bill would protect a so-called "right" to abortion throughout all nine months' of pregnancy, for any reason.
Amongst other things, House Bill HB937 addresses who pays for abortion and how much they would pay. To their eternal shame, the House of Delegates voted to approve this bill which would require health insurance companies to totally cover an abortion with a $0 co-pay. And, it would force taxpayers to subsidize abortions paid for by tax revenue.
And, Senate Bill SB669 would allow babies to be left to die for as long as the first 28 days after birth, according to analysis from pro-life American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) attorney Olivia Summers (read more in the article cited below).
These bills are nothing short of diabolical and show the extent of the disdain their sponsors and supporters have for the innocent unborn. It must be pointed out that only Democratic Delegates and Senators have sponsored these cowardly bills which attack human life at its most vulnerable.
Please take this opportunity to add your voice to this effort, and urge your Maryland State Legislators to reject HB1171, HB937, and SB669 when they come before them for a vote! Ask your legislators to have a change of heart...to soften their hearts to the cries of the innocent unborn. Thank you!
Yours faithfully,
Scott Schittl and the whole Team at LifeSite
