The House and Senate have both proposed increases in funding for lupus programs - programs that raise awareness of lupus, advance research and improve care. However, right now, lupus programs at the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Office of Minority Health are operating under a continuing resolution that provides funding for only a limited time. And for the first time since 2005 the Department of Defense is not providing any funding for lupus research.
Without a full-year budget, all lupus programs may be cut or eliminated, putting continued advancements in research and care at risk.
Therefore, we urge you to contact Congress today and tell them to support their constituents living with lupus by passing FY 2026 appropriations bills that include:
- $20 million for the lupus program at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
- $3 million for the lupus clinical trial program at the Office of Minority Health (OMH)
- $48.7 billion for the National Institutes of Health (NIH)
- $370 million for the Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program at the Department of Defense (DoD) and include lupus as a disease eligible for funding
Contact Congress TODAY! Together, we can protect and strengthen lupus programs and improve the lives of people living with lupus across the country.
