$16.5 million for the creative community

We're in the home stretch of the state budget process and we're within reach of increasing the Massachusetts Cultural Council budget by $2.5 million.

The budget is now in the hands of a Conference Committee where six legislators (Chairwoman Spilka, Chairman Dempsey, Sen. DiDomenico, Rep. Kulik, Sen. deMacedo, and Rep. Smola) meet to agree on a final budget to send to the full Senate and House and then on to Gov. Baker for approval.

Senators Hinds and Cyr and Representative Atkins are circulating letters among colleagues to encourage the Conference Committee to support funding the Massachusetts Cultural Council at $16.5 million in the final conferenced FY18 budget.

This increased investment to the Massachusetts Cultural Council will fund arts, humanities, and science programs for underserved youth, support more community arts through Local Cultural Councils and Cultural Districts, and provide operational support for our core arts and cultural institutions.

Send a quick email asking your legislators to sign on to the Conference Committee letter.
