No one has the right to drive drunk. We already know that preventing an alcohol-impaired person from getting behind the wheel can save lives. The HALT Drunk Driving Law brings that same commonsense approach to vehicle technology.
The technology responds to the driver and is designed to prevent a vehicle from being driven when the driver is over the illegal alcohol limit. There is no surveillance. No remote control of your vehicle. No government access to personal data. Drunk driving is preventable. Congress must protect the HALT Drunk Driving Law and support technology that will save lives and prevent injuries caused by this crime. When the law is fully implemented, more than 10,000 lives will be saved every year.
