In May of 2025, MAZON and a data watchdog organization joined individual SNAP recipients in suing the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to block the agency’s attempt to obtain the personal data of tens of millions of Americans who have applied for, received, or currently receive benefits under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). That data is maintained under strict privacy laws by states, and USDA’s rushed attempt to collect this data is being done in an egregious violation of federal privacy laws.
SNAP is a vital lifeline for Americans who are trying to make ends meet. By violating the trust and privacy of SNAP beneficiaries, USDA is destroying the integrity and credibility of a program that has, for decades, helped millions of Americans feed their families.
Please join MAZON in pressing your Members of Congress to exercise their vital oversight obligation and hold USDA accountable for respecting the privacy of families and individuals who struggle with hunger.
