Return to Learn Funding

On August 20th, Governor Whitmer and the Legislature passed legislation that will almost certainly negatively impact schools and how they are funded.

Schools will not be funded for most new students who have enrolled for THIS coming school year, which goes completely against how Michigan schools are funded. School funding should follow each child. As part of the legislation, 75% of a school’s funding this year will be based on that school’s student enrollment from LAST year.

Schools and families alike are being punished for their diligence, hard work, and thoughtful action in trying to navigate through the challenging months both in the past and ahead. At the same time, other schools will be funded for students who aren’t even there anymore.

Please, take a moment to send your lawmakers a message and ask that they work to correct this problem as they begin work on next year’s budget.
