Support AMENDED PFAS ban in pesticides bill
If you signed on before, now we need you to sign on for the amended version of the bill!

We're making progress preventing PFAS in pesticides! We’re negotiating hard to pass HB319/SB158, now with amended bill language that removes what’s become an insurmountable manufacturers testing requirement. However, our proposed amended bill clearly and effectively bans PFAS in pesticides.

With millions of pounds of pesticides applied annually in Maryland, we need to turn off the tap from this unnecessary but pervasive PFAS contamination source! New research is finding extraordinarily high levels of toxic PFAS 'forever chemicals' in common pesticides, including those used on food crops; the crops grown in these fields have tested at thousands of times the EPA’s lifetime drinking water advisory! PFAS cause long-term serious human health impacts from even low exposure.

PFAS in pesticides contaminates the food grown in Maryland fields. We eat these contaminated crops. Farm workers and their families unknowingly add PFAS to their pesticide exposures. PFAS contaminates our farmland and future harvests. These pesticides run off into Maryland waterways, polluting our drinking and fishing waters. PFAS contaminate Maryland fish and seafood, which many low-income families depend on for food. PFAS kills honeybees and damages key bird species. Maryland's environment bio-accumulates PFAS, with every pesticide application containing PFAS.

We can turn off the PFAS tap from pesticides with a smart, common-sense law — but we need your help.

Every email is counted by your legislator before they vote, so you can make a difference.

HB319/SB158 PFAS in pesticides bill is before the Maryland House and Senate Committees for critical voting, possibly this week. Delegates and Senators need to hear today from their constituents that you want this amended bill passed. If either Committee votes down the bill, it will end our efforts for the year, leading to more years of PFAS in pesticides contaminating our food crops, our bodies, our farmland, drinking water, and Maryland's fisheries.
