Background: July 27 marks the seventy-third year since the signing of the armistice between the United States, DPRK (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, or North Korea), and China ending the three-year war. Joint U.S.-South Korea military drills continue, regional tension is increasing, and strategic ties between Russia and DPRK are strengthening.
Advocating for a formal peace agreement through the Peace on the Korean Peninsula Act (PKPA, H.R. 1841) continues to be critical.
A peace agreement between the U.S., South Korea and DPRK would:
- Reduce military and diplomatic tension in the region.
- Allow for the resumption of humanitarian support.
- Allow divided families in South Korea and the U.S. to reunite with their loved ones in DPRK.
- Build new pathways of engagement and collaboration grounded in peace and nonviolence.
Currently, the PKPA has 53 sponsors. Encourage your representative to support the bill today. Make peace possible!
Faith reflection: “All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation” (2 Corinthians 5:18). Let us bring messages of reconciliation where there is division and conflict.

- Ask your representative to support the PKPA
- Join MCC and others in Washington, D.C., on July 26 to publicly call for formal end to the Korean War
