New York’s small businesses are already stretched thin. Now, Albany is considering legislation that would make it easier to sue us for normal business activity. A single complaint, a price dispute, or a misunderstanding could trigger legal action. Lawyers could accuse us of being “unfair,” demand money, and threaten a lawsuit, even when nothing unlawful happened. It turns lawsuits into a tool for extracting payouts from small businesses.
This is a shakedown disguised as reform. Stop the Small Business Shakedown is a growing movement of business owners speaking out before it’s too late. Add your name and help send a clear message to Albany. Small businesses won’t stay quiet while lawmakers make us easier to sue out of existence.
The FAIR Act and the Consumer and Small Business Protection Act are misnomers, they will harm New York's small businesses.
Please send a message to your legislators, asking them to oppose A.5287 / S.105 (Consumer and Small Business Protection Act) & A.8427 (FAIR Act)
