Lawsuit Reform Alliance of New York

Support S.920 / A.1684 - Notice for ADA Website Lawsuits
Over the past few years, ADA website accessibility lawsuits have been filed at an alarming rate.  New York leads the nation in lawsuits alleging websites were non-compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. New York small businesses, art galleries, wineries, breweries, and universities have all been targeted.

S.920 (Cooney) / A.1684 (Woerner) requires that a claimant provide sixty days to cure the violation prior to commencing an action. Giving businesses time to make their websites accessible before paying out to a lawyer.

Most small and medium-sized businesses have no idea that their websites are not compliant. By giving these organizations sixty days to fix the problem, this bill ensures that the money is spent on bringing websites into compliance, not on legal fees for law firms demanding settlements.

This legislation would help to curb fraud and abuse of ADA laws, which has increased alarmingly.  One attorney filed 300 lawsuits, collecting $930,000 in attorneys fees, before he was arrested because his clients were not aware of the lawsuits.

Please send a message to your legislator, asking them to support the passage of, and to consider co-sponsoring S.920 (Cooney) / A.1684 (Woerner) - Notice for ADA Website Lawsuits.
